Studio Policy

Welcome

We are honored that you have chosen Pottshouse Music School for your musical journey. It brings us great joy to share our knowledge and watch you reach your full potential. With hard work, determination, and patience, you will progress faster than you can imagine, regardless of your current skill level.

Learning Paths at Pottshouse Music School

Our studio offers various options for learning your instrument(s), including:

  • Weekly private lessons (30, 45, or 60 minutes) for piano, voice, guitar, drums, bass, ukulele, or violin
  • Group classes: Guitar Ninjas, Piano Groups, Homeschool Chorus Class, Student Band, and Songwriting

We have multiple teachers to find the best fit for each student. Our complimentary free trial lesson allows us to assess the student's needs and desires, with tuition determined and communicated at that time.

Location Offerings

  • Burlington Location: We teach several instruments, including piano, voice, guitar, drums, bass, ukulele, and violin.
  • Mebane Location: We offer lessons for piano, guitar, bass, and ukulele.

Our Responsibilities

We will teach students the language of music in a positive and enthusiastic environment, empowering each student to influence their music education based on their interests and long-term goals. We tailor the curriculum to match each student's specific learning needs and provide a weekly assignment sheet to guide their practice.

Student & Family Responsibilities

Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with their assignment sheets, music, and instrument. For piano lessons, a keyboard will be provided in the studio. Please silence cell phones during lessons. Stringed Instrumentalists should keep fingernails trimmed. To make notable progress, a minimum of 5 days with 20 minutes of quality practice is necessary. If there are any questions about home assignments, please ask.

Parents, if something is affecting your child at home or school, please let us know so we can be sensitive to their needs. We encourage all students to participate in recitals and auditions for local ensembles and competitions. Students must have their own instrument to practice at home, and we are happy to assist with purchasing recommendations.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition: Determined at the trial lesson based on the student's goals. Tuition is a monthly flat rate that covers:

  • The allotted time spent with the student
  • Reserved time slot for the student
  • Time spent researching and preparing music for lessons
  • Administrative costs and time
  • Studio expenses
  • Supplies and tools

Tuition reserves the weekly time slot whether or not the student attends the lesson. All tuition payments are set to auto-pay and due on the first of each month. Automated emails with monthly invoices will be sent on the first, when the automatic draft will occur. Please check invoices for any errors.  Payments received 7 days after the invoice date are subject to a $30 late fee, with an additional $30 late fee for payments received after the 7th of the following month. Recurring late payments may result in termination of enrollment.

Effective October 22, 2024 tuition will be drafted on the 22nd of each month instead of the 1st.

Enrollment Deposit: To secure your spot at Pottshouse Music School, $150 enrollment deposit is required. This non-refundable deposit will cover your last month's tuition. Additionally, the first month's tuition must be paid before the student is officially enrolled.  Multiple students may be added for each family.

Annual Administrative Fee: $30 per family, covering administrative costs, special event rental fees, and general overhead costs. This fee is collected March 22nd, annually and will be included in your March invoice.  Notice will be given one month before this fee is due.

Guitar Ninjas Grading Fee: This $30 fee (for anyone participating in the Guitar Ninjas curriculum) will be applied to the following month's tuition upon completion of the workbook checklist, covering the cost of a new book and strap.

Lesson Cancellation Policy

Please provide 24-hour notice for any known absences by contacting your teacher directly. If the student or anyone in the home is sick, please do not bring them to the studio.

Missed Lesson Policy (No Makeup Lesson)

Regular attendance is expected for maximum benefit. Missed lessons are accounted for in the overall tuition cost, with no credits or refunds given. Tuition remains consistent regardless of the number of lessons attended. Instructors may occasionally cancel lessons for personal illness, family emergencies, or professional travel. The exact number of lessons per year cannot be guaranteed, as missed lessons have been considered in the tuition formulation.

Withdrawal Policy

To withdraw from Pottshouse Music School, we require a written notice at least 30 days before your desired withdrawal date. This policy also applies to changes in instruments and instructors.

  • If you provide the required 30 days' notice, your last month's tuition will be covered by your enrollment deposit.
  • If you give less than 30 days' notice, you will forfeit your enrollment deposit and may be charged an additional month's tuition.
  • Please note that no refunds will be issued for tuition already paid, but you may continue to attend lessons for the paid month.

Summer Flex Schedule

The Summer Flex Schedule spans a 10-week period during the summer months. This lighter schedule is designed to integrate with your summer plans. Each student schedules up to 6 sessions with their instructor, who will provide details on how to arrange these lessons. Tuition remains a flat rate even during the summer, factoring in the entire 12 months of the year. We do not charge extra during months with more lessons, as the tuition is evenly split throughout the year.

Music & Materials

Each student is responsible for purchasing the required music and materials for lessons. Instructors will offer guidance on what might be needed, and these charges will be added to your monthly invoice.

Commitment

Enrollment reserves the student's place in the studio for the agreed time slot. Changes to weekly schedules may be made on a case-by-case basis each month before tuition is due.
